I am... NAMED (week 3)

Before you were born, God knew you. In fact, He specifically and carefully designed what you would look like. God was not surprised when you were born because He made you as intentionally as an artist makes a painting. You are more than an inanimate expression of art! There is not a single person who God does not know by name. No matter the language, or country, God knows you.

He knew Moses when they met (Exodus 3:4) and called him by name, He knew Samuel and called him by name before Samuel knew who God was (1 Samuel 3:1-10) God knows you and this shows how personal His love is towards you.

He loves knowing you. In fact, one of the names given to God means “God who lives with us” you might know it better as “Emmanuel”. He wants to live in your heart so that no matter what happens in the future you can count on this: You are named by the one who knows you.

God knows you by name! The fact that He knows you by name, shows how personal His love is towards you.

Read and underline the verses on below in your Bible. Write any verses that jump out at you on some paper or a journal, so you don’t forget them.

Exodus 33:17  (MSG)

17The Lord answered Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor with me, and I know you by name.”

Psalms 139:13-18 (NIV)

13For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.15My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth.16Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before one of them began.17God, how precious your thoughts are to me; how vast their sum is!18If I counted them, they would outnumber the grains of sand; when I wake up, I am still with you.

Jeremiah 1:5a (NLT)

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…”

  • How would you describe your relationship with God? Are you a friend? Acquaintance or not close at all?

  •  How do these names align with what God says about you and what he has done for you?

  • What would change if you more fully accepted and internalized that you are not a stranger to God?

  • Take a few moments to reflect and thank God for wanting to know you more
