I am... NAMED (week 2)
NAMED BY THE I AM
It is great knowing that we have an all-powerful God who listens to you and wants to be close to you, but do you understand how big that is? How much God knows you?
God has a name, but Instead of saying His proper name, We gave God titles by which to call him. We don’t call Him “It” because God is not a thing, or a force but a person. His name is YWHW– Basically it means “I by myself, Am” or “I AM”. God’s name is “I AM”!
God is so Holy, and his name so pure, it is almost a dishonor to say his name out loud. Yet, he didn’t want that to create a wedge between you and Him so He gave himself a name by which we can call Him through His Son, Jesus.
Jesus is God, and we can trust in His name. It is through Jesus that you are called part of God’s family. Through Jesus you are named “Child of God”, son and daughter of the King of Kings which makes you royalty.
You are named that by the Great I Am, making you a prince or princess of the Kingdom of God.
Read and underline the verses on below in your Bible. Write any verses that jump out at you on some paper or a journal, so you don’t forget them.
Exodus 3:15 (NLT)
14 God replied to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation
Romans 8:14 (NIV)
14 For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. 15 You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, 17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him
1 Peter 1:9 (CSB)
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
How does it make you feel knowing that you are part of God’s family?
Were there any words that jumped out at you from the scriptures you read?
What would change if you fully realized that you are royalty because you are God’s child?
Take a few moments to reflect and thank God for naming you His Child.
